Global Poetry

Creativity. Dignity. Dialogue. Global Citizenship.

Mission

Global Poetry is a part of the Transcend: Art and Peace Network (T:AP) and its mission is:

  • To actively encourage and enable the use of poetry to facilitate peacebuilding at personal, social and international levels,
  • To use poetry as a means for initiating dialogue between people of different civilisations, countries or territories, and
  • To promote the notion of a human identity, and human dignity towards global citizenship.

We believe that poetry can be used as a therapeutic tool for self-knowledge, self-acceptance, self-affirmation and imaginative thinking.  Poetry can also be used to celebrate our connections with the physical environment as well as with people around us. Poetic imagination and creativity can be used in the direction of finding solutions to inner conflicts so that they bring out our inherent power that supports life and not demean it.

Since poetry is deeply connected to the human being, which forms the centre point of all societies and nations, by recognising human dignity and equality, poetic imagination and creativity can also be used for finding peaceful solutions to inter-personal and international conflicts.

Global Poetry was founded in the year 2000 by Sumeet Grover and it was not long before it became a part of T:AP, sharing the same mission and passion for arts and peacebuilding.
